New Chief Executive Officer
January 26 , 2011 – The Board of Directors of the Nunavut Film Development Corporation (NFDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Mazur as the new Chief Executive Officer of the organization after an extensive search by committee that included industry representatives.
Derek Mazur is one of Canada’s most award-winning producers and over the past thirty-five years has earned a reputation for excellence by producing and/or directing award-winning animation, documentary and drama projects. He has won multiple Gemini Awards, several Genies and an Emmy for projects such as Lost in the Barrens, The Diviners, Runaway , Get a Job and Wapos Bay. Mazur was also the Executive Producer of the National Film Board (Prairie Centre) where he was responsible for production in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northern Ontario and Nunavut..
In addition to being the founder and former President of the Manitoba Motion Picture Industry Association, a former board member of the National Screen Institute, the Banff Television Foundation, the Nunavut Film Development Corporation, and the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association, Mazur is also the recipient of the Manitoba Blizzard award for Outstanding Achievement and Canada’s 125th Anniversary Medal for Significant Contribution to Canadian Culture.

Madeleine d'Argencourt, President of the Nunavut Film Development Corporation, expressed the organizations’ enthusiasm, “I am looking forward to working with someone with Derek's experience to continue building the local industry", she stated. "Derek is no stranger to Nunavut, having filmed his own projects here, developed local training initiatives, as well as having produced the work of numerous Nunavut filmmakers".
The Nunavut Film Development Corporation is a non-governmental organization, established by the Government of Nunavut to provide training and funding though various programs for the production and marketing of film, television and digital media. In meeting its mandate, NFDC's vision is to position Nunavut as a competitive, circumpolar production centre, where Nunavummiut and guests can create quality production that is marketed and distributed to both the domestic and global market. Our policies and programs reflect the six guiding principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
